At-Home Tips For Sensitive Skin

We know how stressful it can be to deal with sensitive skin. It not only makes your daily skincare routines more stressful, it also makes choosing sensitive skincare products difficult too.

Let’s face it, there is no miracle potion to cure sensitive skin, but there are products which can minimize the sensitivity and there are many DIY methods you can adhere to.

So, with that said, the Skinful team have come together to list their best DIY skincare solutions for sensitive skin.

Let’s get started…

Keep your products to a minimum

We’ve all heard the saying “less is more”. Well, when it comes to sensitive skincare, this is a must.

Using Fewer products means exposing our skin to fewer ingredients. This is good. It gives less chance of your sensitive skin having a reaction.

Stick with the basics. And try to use skincare products that are formulated with sensitive skin in mind.

Don’t over-exfoliate your face

Many skincare brands choose to ignore the fact that our skin does a pretty good job in keeping itself clean, naturally.

Our skin naturally creates lipids and proteins that form a strong, protective barrier from the nasties.

When we overwash our face or over-exfoliate, we run the risk of washing these important proteins away. And having sensitive skin means this protective barrier is even more essential.

We recommend washing just twice a day, using products which are formulated with sensitive skin in mind.

Find out what’s triggering your skin

Arguably the best way to fight the battle against sensitive skin is by taking the time to identify what’s triggering your sensitivity.

This of course can take time and patience, but the results will definitely outweigh the time consumed.

A great place to start is with the products you use every day. Take your time to limit these products – by not using one for a few days and see how your skin reacts to its absence.

We say a few days, but of course this may need to run into a week or two. Your skin needs time to breathe without the product.

If you’re looking to speed up the process, somewhat, a great leap in the process is by kicking out any products containing fragrances, parabens or dyes.

This will at least cut out the main causes of skin problems.
